Books that really make them laugh

There are lots of humorous books written for children, but which are the ones which really make them laugh? Which are the ones you know really tickle them, because you hear the giggles?

These are a few which provoke the snorts in our house. (They are all good for 7yrs+ readers who are reading to themselves, but younger children will enjoy most books if you are reading to them.)

Mr Gum (series)                            Andy Stanton
Captain Underpants (series)          Dav Pilkey

Krazy Kow Daves the World ...    Jeremy Strong

Dear Dumb Diary                          Jim Benton (like Wimpy Kid, but from a girl's perspective)

The Twits                                       Roald Dahl

Also boys love comic strips, and Calvin and Hobbes is laugh out loud, as well as touching and wise.

Please add yours.

@susannar100 For me it was the Jennings books by Anthony Buckeridge. I used to giggle myself to sleep at nights!

  4. Mostly for young children (pre-reading to just starting) The Little Mole Who Knew it was None of His Business. It was recommended at a lecture for teaching children with special needs because of the humour. I bought it for my young Granddaughter because I thought it was hilarious. All children find Poo funny and if you can make them laugh, you're more than halfway to getting their attention.

  6. Sir Charlie Stinky Socks And The Really Frightful Night by Kristina Stephenson is a magic read whilst reading out loud to your kids. Not read the others in the series but a must do!

  7. My youngest son (2) loves 'Aliens Love Underpants' and 'Give It A Try Camel o Shy', while my 6 year old is currently in knots as we read together three Roald Dahl favourites that have been translated into Scots 'The Eejits' 'Geordies Mingin Medicine' and 'The Sleekit Mr Tod'. Neither of them go without a bedtime story and sooooo many books on their shelves.

  9. Thanks everyone for your additions - all welcome.

Mythagoman - thanks for that suggestion. I haven't seen Paul Jennings' books before but just looked them up and they look terrific. Will order some from the library.
